2007-10-03: The death of my mouse
From WhyNotWiki
While innocently using my computer, a message popped up telling me that a USB device had malfunctioned:

Now I have gotten messages like this before (though not this exact one, that I recall) and they had turned out to be false reports (the hardware worked fine even though it reported there being a problem), so I didn't think much of it at first.
But I did a mental check and asked myself which USB device it could have been referring to... My Wacom tablet? I wiggled it around and it still worked... My mouse?
Hmm... I looked down and saw my cat chewing on the cord. I looked to see if he had done any damage, and sure enough, he'd bitten through the insulation and into the wire:

I tried using the mouse, and sure enough, it no longer worked, and the nice red light that it normally emits was no longer on as well.
I need to teach my cat to not chew on cables!
Is it repairable? Doesn't look like it is!
