[edit] Extreme #1: Micromanager God

Expecting God to dictate for us every little decision in life, from where to park your car to what to eat for lunch. So we would essentially have no decisions to make in life...save whether to follow God's "leading" or not.

[edit] Extreme #2: Whatever happens is God's will

If it happens, it must be God's will. God only allows things to happen that are his will.

"This turn of events was the will of God, for it fulfilled the prophecy of the Lord..." (2 Chronicles|10:15)

"The Lord says: ... Go back home, for what has happpened is my doing!" (2 Chronicles|11:4)

"The Lord says: You have abandoned me, so I am abandoning you..." (2 Chronicles|12:5)

To help understand God's will, it's helpful to separate the concept into two categories:

  • his [global] will
  • his specific will
