Picturesque verbiage

From WhyNotWiki

This is for collecting wording/verbiage that I like. It is very related to Quotes -- but I think that would be a subset of this... But some verbiage, you see, doesn't really make a good standalone quote in its own right; yet it begs to be learned from and emulated.

[edit] "just a bubble off plumb" (adj.)

A nice way to describe someone as "different", "odd", "unique", a little "off balance"...

Sighting:

  • Seen in Mark A. Kellner. Adventist Review, June 28, 2007, page 30 (574), "Everybodoy's Normal, Until...", in which he said "_, as a friend of ours once put it". — Tyler (2007-08-26 13:15)

[edit] Inspiration

This article/section is partly inspired by Readers Digest, which invented a regular monthly column entitled "Toward More Picturesque Speech". I give assent and gratitude to this idea. But I think I will put the emphasis on the "verbiage" (words) rather than "speech" (what about writing??).
