Rocky & Bullwinkle enjoyed great popularity during the 1960s. Much of this success was a result of it being targeted towards both children and adults. The zany characters and absurd plots would draw in children, while the clever usage of puns and topical references appealed to the adult demographic. Furthermore, the strengths of the series helped it overcome the fact that it had choppy, limited animation; in fact, some critics described the series as a well-written radio program with pictures.
...
Supporting features:
- Peabody's Improbable History featured a talking dog genius named Mister Peabody who had a pet boy named Sherman. Sherman and Peabody would use Peabody's "WABAC machine" (pronounced "way-back") to go back in time to discover the real story behind historical events.
- Fractured Fairy Tales presented familiar fairy tales and children's stories, except with the storyline humorously changed, and was narrated by Edward Everett Horton.
- Aesop & Son was similar to Fractured Fairy Tales (complete with the same theme music), except it dealt with fables instead of fairy tales. The typical structure consisted of Aesop attempting to teach a lesson to his son using a fable. After hearing the story, the son would erode the fable's moral with a pun.
- Bullwinkle's Corner had Bullwinkle reading poems and nursery rhymes and inadvertently, although humorously, butchering them.
- Mr. Know-It-All had Bullwinkle giving "words of wisdom," only to have something go disastrously wrong every time.
Jonathan K.. Hokey Smoke! Rocky and Bullwinkle (http://bullwinkle.toonzone.net/).
This is a fan-based site made for my love of Jay Ward's wacky cartoons. I discovered Rocky and Bullwinkle in my youth, but I never lost the fascination for the series. The wit, corny jokes, puns, and social satire hit my funny bone in no other way a cartoon has before.
Beginning in early 2000, I was anxious to see the return of Rocky and Bullwinkle into theaters in the feature film "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" that summer. To quench my need for the moose and squirrel, I've searched the internet for in-depth, fan-driven, "Rocky and Bullwinkle" web sites. I was shocked that such a beloved cartoon had a serious lack of dedicated fan pages, especially considering other shows have online shrines that number in the thousands. I was utterly delighted the same year, when Keith Scott's book The Moose That Roared was released. It archived the entire career of Jay Ward and his animation, and gave the fans a real insider's view of the spirit behind Mr. Ward. The book served as a true inspiration, and showed me that the world still has an active interest in in an idiot savant moose and his clever flying pal.
As an active expression of self, I've set up this page to provide you with everything regarding Rocky and Bullwinkle that I could muster. Included are episode listings, video clips, sounds, show history, [...]

- "Classic" -- The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show was the ultimate in children's variety. Wheather you were interested in science, sports or anything else there was something in store for you.
- The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show was an oldish animated series that ran for many years, attracting audiences young and old. It was a sort of Vaudeville, if you will, starring Rocky the high flying squirrel and Bullwinkle the moose as the Masters of Ceremony. They performed stand-up comdedy, dressed up for various skits and never spoke above the level of their targeted audience. Some of the other charactures included a pair of Russian spies ( Boris and his long-time acquaintance Natasha ), an egg head, youthful scientist with his very articulate, spectacled canine and many others. If you enjoy silly vaudeville acts and are young at heart, I highly recommend this series.

- "Bring it back!" -- A classic cartoon that was good for kids and adults alike.
- Lots of funny happenings that would be funny in 2 different ways. It had clever dialogue that was funny on its face to children and funny with a double meaning to adults. There were other cartoons on the show other that just Rocky and Bullwinkle. Some of the other segments included Fractured fairy Tales, Mister Know-It-All, Peabody's Improbable History, Dudly Do-right of the Mounties and Bullwinkle's Corner. Some of these segments were better than the rocky and Bullwinkle segments. I wish there was a show like this today using the same type of comedy.

- "Daily fix" -- Still love it after all these years.
tallactor
- "Classic" -- One of the best animated series ever
- It was great not because of the quality of the animation, which was fairly primitive and fairly cheaply done, but because of the brilliant writing. This was a show which could please children with its fanciful story lines and wacky characters, and yet there was much there for adult viewers, too, including sly cultural references and intricate wordplay. Some of the references are to things and people now forgotten by most ([...]), but most of the jokes still work to this day.
doodlemon
- "Informative" -- You can learn from this show. This is very informative.
- These cartoons are as fresh and funny as when they first aired more than four decades ago. Boomer-era adults will be amazed at the jokes that no doubt soared over their heads as children.

[edit] Show/segment list (numbered to match DVD)
I like how all the titles actually have two titles. Some of them are kind of punny.
http://www.tv.com/rocky-and-his-friends/show/5212/contribute.html appears to be the only full list of actual shows/segments/titles.
Numbering:
- Their list simply lists each segment with its own number. So Season 1 had 52 segments. This is different than on the DVD, which lets thingsn by "shows". Each show had to R&B segments on it: one at the beginning and one at the end (with 2 or 3 other features in between). So to convert from tv.com's numbering scheme to the DVD scheme, simply take
|n/2|where n is the tv.com number. - When tv.com gets to Season 2, they keep on counting from 53, whereas the Season DVDs start counting the season 2 shows from 1. So for a show number n from Season 2, you need to take
n-52to convert to DVD scheme. - 53 == Season 2, Episode 53 − 52 = 1 == Show
, Part 53 ≡ 1 (mod 2) == Show 2, Part 1 - 54 == Season 2, Episode 54 − 52 = 2 == Show
, Part 54 ≡ 2 (mod 2) == Show 2, Part 2 - 78 == Season 2, Episode 78 − 52 = 26 == Show
, Part 78 ≡ 2 (mod 2) == Show 13, Part 2 - 79 == Season 2, Episode 79 − 52 = 27 == Show
, Part 27 ≡ 1 (mod 2) == Show 14, Part 1

- Mr. Know-It-All: How To Disarm A Live TNT Bomb
- Today we are taking up the problem of how to disarm a 5000 megaton TNT bomb in your own workshop in your spare time to amuse your friends...or just yourself even.
- First and surist-fire is the hairpin technique...which requires (1) a common hairpin, and (2) a common bomb. This method, when employed by an expert professional bomb disarmer is 100% safe... [bomb explodes] 99% anyway.
- Next it is important to be able to detect the bomb before disarming.
- One would think it would be this object because of its ticking sound...but obviously that's just to throw one off.
- Likewise with these two objects. But here, cleverly disguised as a bomb, is a bomb. [Drops bomb in bathtub.] And thus another nasty scene has been diverted by [bomb explodes].

- Mr. Know-It-All: How To Be A Beatnik
- Some people think the beatnik is merely a bum with sunglasses... but he is more than that (...though not much)
- The first step in becoming a beatnik is to grow a beard. This can be a long process...particularly if you're a girl.
- Clothingwise, we should remember this important rule: the well-dressed beatnik is seldom neatnick.
- Beatniks hang out in unemployment lines, health food stores, but most off all in coffee houses.
- Beatnik joints have lots of atmosphere, but it's it's usually too dark to see it
