Should we be "tolerant"?

"Tolerance" seems to be a very politically correct buzzword these days. Politicians/activists can get away with a lot of worthless, messed up nonsense all in the "tolerance".

Do I not believe in tolerance then? Do I believe it's okay to be "intolerant" of others? No! Don't misconstrue what I'm saying here.

That's exactly what's happening here, is people are taking this very nice, good concept (one which I think we can all assent is a good thing) and they're abusing it for their own agendas/purposes, misconstruing it, taking it to an extreme that goes beyond mere "tolerance". And it needs to stop.

In the 2007-03-16 broadcast of Crosstalk ([looking for (category)]) , there was a discussion of a public school curriculum by [] that was supposedly "about" the Bible but which was written in such a manner as to try not to offend those of other belief systems, other world religions (including Islam), and even unbelievers. They went on to talk about how this [course] ended up being more a comparative religion (including mentioning things that the Quaran teaches) rather than a [course] about the Bible and based on what's in the Bible.

In the same broadcast, they talked about how [the same] policies required tolerance/acceptance of other people's beliefs. So if one student expressed the belief in class that "I believe Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No man may come to the Father except through Him." and another spoke up and said "I believe that Jesus was either deluded with delusions of grandeur or else he knew what he was doing and was a con-man", then the Christian in the class would be expected to accept that belief? What exactly do we mean by "accept"?? I think that might be where they go too far. It's one thing to respect / not kill people for believing what they do. But to "accept" it? [I need to review the broadcast recording and see what actual words/semantics were used and such.]

Promoters of the Homosexual agenda love to use words like "tolerance" and people's "rights" to promote their cause. They form "Gay-Straight Alliances" in the name of tolerance. (And while claiming their "right" as a gay couple to raise a child, they completely neglect the right of that child to be raised in a real family with a mother and a father.)

Sure, we should tolerate people and their different beliefs. We certainly shouldn't be violent against those who don't share our viewpoints. But we should not be expected or asked to agree with those beliefs. Nor to become uncomfortably acquainted/allied with them.

We shouldn't compromise in the name of "tolerance".

Are w:ecumenism and pluralism and interfaith efforts a good thing? That's another topic...
