Tolerance for spiritualism  edit   (Category  edit)

It amazes me how many people today are apparently "okay" with spiritualism. They don't seem to mind the growing interest in witchcraft among children (etc.) due to the Harry Potter phenomenon. They seem not to care about children's books making references to the occult and spiritualism.

Wake up! Expose darkness for what it is. Don't tolerate it! Especially in your own household or in your own children's hands!

[edit] The Daring Book for Girls

[Children's books (category)] [Protecting children's eyes (category)]

The fact that this book includes instruction in spiritualism and has received mostly positive reviews and ratings (see below) on Amazon.com I think speaks volumes about the sad state of America and the downward spiral which American's morality is headed.

(48 Reviews)
5 star: 62% (30)
4 star: 12% (6)
3 star: 6% (3)
2 star: 4% (2)
1 star: 14% (7)

62% of the reviewers gave it 5 stars!

In their defense, maybe the reviewers weren't aware of the occult elements of the book before they reviewed it. Maybe they just skimmed through the book at the book store, were impressed by the interesting practical information it contained, and bought it, saw that their daughter enjoyed reading it, and based their review solely on that.

It would be too easy for someone to see the innocent-sounding title and description, see the 4.5-star rating, and read a couple positive customer reviews and conclude it was a good book for their daughter. But how dangerous a lack of information could be in this case!

Isn't there someone out there who will see the danger in this book and warn others about it??

Thankfully, a few reviewers spoke out against the book. For example:

Amazon.com: Seattle Pete's review of The Daring Book for Girls, "1.0 out of 5 stars Warning! Occult alert - this book contains instruction in spiritualism, December 15, 2007"

Hold everything!!! Palm Reading? Summoning spirits? What's that stuff doing in here?

What looks like - and is presented as - an empowering book for girls instead promotes some of the least empowering beliefs on the planet.

It's a real shame, because this book is loaded with cool historical and practical information, much like the "Dangerous for Boys" book. We had eagerly looked forward to the girls' turn. But boy, are we disappointed!

Instruction in spiritualism is completely inappropriate for children, and it ruins an otherwise good book. Fortune telling and summoning the ghost of Mary Queen of Scots are among some of the "daring" activities encouraged, and frankly, presented as something that could actually work.

Why are there such falsehoods in this book? Since when is that empowering? The "Boys" book didn't have this kind of stuff. Why should our girls have their minds polluted with it?

If the authors believe they are presenting something truthful - that a girl really can see or feel the ghostly presence of "Bloody Mary" by performing the ritual described, then this book REALLY has problems!

If you object to educating your child in this kind of stuff for any reason, don't buy this book.

What a disappointment!

What a good review! How timely and relevant!

But how disappointing the poor reception this much-needed negative review received! Only "18 of 48 people found the [...] review helpful"??

That can't be right! In fact, I don't believe that number is representative of the actual English-reading population who might be interested in buying the book.

Surely there are more mothers out there with conservative values than there are those who sympathize with occult ideas! Yes?

62% of the reviewers gave it 5 stars!

I am just amazed that more than 18/48 didn't find that review helpful! I don't know about you, but I sure voted "helpful" for this review. Very helpful. Without the help of discerning, concerned reviewers like this one, it would be much easier for uninformed parents to be conned into buying a book for their daughter that might open the way to spiritualism or even witchcraft.

I highly doubt your claim that spiritualism for children is inappropriate for children. Is that the case, or is it the occult aspect that you find wrong? Personally, any religion for anyone (no matter their age) is wrong and only weakens the individual by forcing blame on someone else. We should encourage our kids to be open-minded, free-thinkers, and have a little fun in their lives! Have fun! Because when you get older, the world (society) tries to take that fun away from you.

As long as there's no blood sacrifices, I see nothing wrong with teaching girls some empowering things, especially when society spends so much of its time degrading and stripping women of any power.

Wow. Please tell me most people don't think this way? (Even if most people do, I will continue to strongly disagree with them.) So we should encourage our kids to be "open-minded free-thinkers" who accept communicating with evil spirits as normal, okay behavior?? We should let our kids be exposed to all the trash in the world, in the hopes that they will become good open-minded people? I think not! We have a responsibility to protect our children's eyes and ears from that which we find morally repugnant.
