[edit] 2007-11-18: Resized my Windows partition (C:)

When I installed Windows, I had made the mistake of installing Windows to a partition with only 4 GB. I figured that would be plenty for Windows (I had a separate 20 GB partition for Programs and a 150 GB partition for Data). Alas, Windows is a space hog and it grows over time. As of 2007-11-18 14:10, my C:\Windows directory is 3.90 GB (4,188,321,026 bytes).

I kept running out of space on my C: partition, and some software would refuse to install because there "wasn't enough space".

Thankfully, Gparted allows one to resize NTFS partitions and it worked flawlessly for me. I booted into Linux, unmounted all of the partitions on sdb, resized my extended partition and added free space before it (this required that I first resize the first partition within the extended partition, adding free space before it), then resized my first partition (C:), making it grow to use all of that free space I just caused to be unallocated. All 3 of these operations were performed at the same time (well, sequentially, probably, but to the user, it appeared as 1 giant operation).

(The results of this can be found in gparted_details.html?)

After that completed, I rebooted into Windows, and it asked to check the disks, so I let it.

[edit] Log

2007-10-26: At 7:07, I woke up to hear the sound of my computer restarting. I have no idea why it restarted. I certainly don't remember telling it to.

[edit] Unresolved problems

[edit] tablet support is flakey

It won't let me go all the way to the edge of the screen sometime (any edge). Have to "reset" its knowledge of extents by going to the opposite edge.

I suspect it's trying to do relative detection rather than absolute?

[edit] How to record and play back simultaneously

I ought to be able to simply tell it "record whatever is being played/output right now". But I can't seem to find that option.

I could run dubbing cables from line-out to line-in, keep my speakers in the speakers jack, and record line-in?

[edit] To do

  • My software stack (What programs I have installed)
  • Backup plan
  • etc.
