Why don't I see more evidence of God working in people's lives?

Maybe because the way God works is not the way we would like him to work.

He prefers to work on people "from the inside out". Not (usually) by doing big, showy external, visible miracles, but by a slow working/nudging process in people's hearts and minds.

He changes people from the inside.

He's not into the glitzy / glamorous / extravagant / catchy / ostentatious displays that the world is so enamored with / impressed by / familiar with. That's what people are used to; that's what Hollywood/TV feeds us; that's what many worldly people like to see. But it's not the way God works. He's not into that kind of stuff.

When Jesus came to this Earth, the Jewish nation didn't even recognize him as their Savior/Messiah because he was not what they were looking for. They were expecting/looking for an earthly king, not a down-to-earth, mingle-with-the-people, friendly-with-the-poor-and-sinners, meek and humble "king". They didn't know how to recognize a king of godly character (God himself incarnate!) if they saw one in the flesh! Amazing.

There was a great Between the Lines episode recently (broadcast 2007-03-16 Friday) that dealt with this. If only I knew the name / episode number I could check it out / link to it / quote from it / re-listen to it...

He used the word "exucia", which it sounded like referred to this changing/working on the inside. But the only real reference I found with Google was this, which says it means "authority". Maybe Paster Pate was saying that he prefers to not boss us around with his authority, but rather to work in more [gentle] ways?
