Why we need to remember
From WhyNotWiki
After 4 generations, there will probably be no one on the face of the earth who remembers you.
We don't even remember "important people" like presidents! Who was the president before Abraham Lincoln?? Who knows! We don't remember things like that.
We make memorials / statues for things we don't want to ever forget... The Lincoln Memorial. Holocaust memorials. The Vietnam War memorials... And these are indeed things/people that it would be good for us not to forget!
God doesn't want us to forget him either. That's why he set aside events/rituals/creation to be memorials to him, to remember not only that he exists, but to remember who he is (GOD!)...
- The Sabbath: A memorial to creation that happens every 7 days
- The Lord's Supper: "Do this in remembrance of me"
- The Passover
- Mary Magdalene
Pastor Walikonis preached a great sermon about remembering, on 2006-06-25. I'd like to get a copy of that.
